Sunday Schedule for July 26th

  • Prayer Concerns:
    • Please be praying for the staff, campers, and counselors of Camp Judson over the past two weeks.  There have been a number of people from the camp who have tested positive for COVID-19.
    • Please be praying for Tim Farnsworth’s father.  It was recently discovered that he has a cancerous mass on his kidney.
  • Email Devotional (Sent Saturday Night) – We invite you to unite with us by following the order of worship below for a personal/family devotion on Sunday.  Begin at the top and work your way down, reading through the service.  If you are with others, you can alternate between readings.
  • Zoom Gathering (Sunday from 9:45-11:00 AM) on Sunday morning as we worship the risen Lord.  You can enter the room and get familiar with Zoom at any time between 9:30-9:45 AM.  You can also call into Zoom before 9:45 AM by dialing +1 312 626 6799 and entering the meeting number: 842-8050-6808, followed by the password “341606” and “#” on your phone (NOTE: You can “mute” or “unmute” yourself on the phone by pressing “*6”.  Zoom (much like FaceTime) allows a group to speak to and see one another in order to give us a better sense of community.

Call to Worship

Leviticus 11:44a

44 I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, the privilege is ours to be called to share in the loving, healing, and reconciling mission of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, wherever we are.  As we worship today, may your Spirit make us wise; may your Spirit guide us; may your Spirit renew us; may your Spirit strengthen us so that we will be strong in faith; discerning in proclamation; courageous in witness; persistent in good deeds.  This we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

The First Scripture Reading is from…
Luke 10:1-9  (NIV)

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. 9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’

The Second Scripture Reading is from …

Acts 13:1-3
1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

Personal/Family Reflection

Reflect on the discussion starters below for personal or family reflection…

  1. Share a time when working towards a common goal led you to the formation of community.
  2. How does being on mission together with others from your congregation benefit worship, community, and mission?
  3. What are some of the main problems with expecting non-Christians to come to us, rather than us going to them?
  4. Many congregations have no limit to their attendance goals.  How might putting a cap/limit on a congregation’s attendance actually serve to strengthen the local church, make more disciples, and plant more local churches?

Time of Prayer
(Take some time to pray personally or for others in your own words that the world would be infected with the life and love of King Jesus.)

Better is One Day

Mark 10:29-30 (NIV)
Jesus said, “No one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.
