Dr. Milton Plucker ()

Dr. Milton Plucker, 95, died at the home of his son, Wayne in Caryville, TN, December 18, 2015. Milton Plucker was born August 25, 1920 to John and Johanna (Olthoff) Plucker in Emery, SD. He spent his childhood working on the family farm in Lennox, SD.

After graduation from Lennox High School, Milton earned an A.A. degree from Sioux Falls College, and a B.A. degree from Augustana College. Planning to become a teacher, he practice taught public speaking at Washington High School in Sioux Falls. While at Sioux Falls College he worked as an orderly and an x-ray technician at Sioux Valley Hospital. At Sioux Valley he met a young nurse, Florence Snethen, who became the love of his life. Milton and Florence were married in 1944. During WWII he was stationed at Sioux Falls Air Base where he served as an x-ray technician, there a radiologist convinced him to go into medicine.

When the war ended he continued his education earning his B.S in medicine from the University of South Dakota Medical School, and in 1951, his M.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical School. After completing his residency in Omaha, Dr. Plucker practiced in Storden and Clarkfield, Minnesota, before joining the Worthington Clinic 1954. He loved being a doctor and helping people, after 37 years at the clinic he retired from medical practice in 1991.

Milton and Florence raised four children in Worthington. They enjoyed travelling and together toured 48 states, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, the Holy lands, Egypt and the Virgin Islands. In 2000 they moved to Trail Ridge Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. Florence’s final eighteen months were spent at Luther Manor Nursing home in Sioux Falls where Milton was by her side every afternoon. They were married for 68 fulfilling and happy years.

Milton accepted Christ as his Savior at age 15; he loved the Lord and never wavered in that commitment. He was an active leader, deacon, and teacher at First Baptist Church in Worthington. While retired in Sioux Falls he continued to be actively involved at Trinity Baptist Church and at Sioux Falls Seminary.

Dr. Plucker is survived by three sons, Wendell and wife Marsha, Littleton, CO, Wayne, Caryville, TN, Robert and wife Shelley, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; daughter, Joann Asbury and husband Herb, Little Switzerland, NC; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; his brother Harley and wife Valeria, Emery, SD; sister Sena Brust and husband Art, Lincoln, CA; sisters-in-law Mavis Plucker, Merriam, KS, and RachelAnn Plucker, Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence, daughter-in-law Terry, infant grandson John, and brothers Orvin and Luverne.
