Trinity Sunday Devotion

for Easter Sunday, April 12th

Before You Get Started

  • Join us for Easter Sunday on Zoom from 9:45-10:00 AM on Sunday morning as we worship the risen Lord.  You can enter the room and get familiar with Zoom at any time between 9:30-9:45 AM.  If you log on early, we invite you to put an Easter egg somewhere in the background of your camera so kids can do a virtual Easter Egg hunt before the service.
  • Call into Zoom before 9:45 AM by dialing +1 312 626 6799 and entering the meeting number: 538 922 448, followed by the password “341606” and “#” on your phone (NOTE: You can “mute” or “unmute” yourself on the phone by pressing “*6”.  Zoom (much like FaceTime) allows a group to speak to and see one another in order to give us a better sense of community.
  • Order of Worship – Although we will not be meeting together physically, we invite you to unite with us by following the order of worship below for a personal/family devotion on Sunday.  Begin at the top and work your way down, reading through the service.  If you are with others, you can alternate between readings.

Call to Worship

1 Peter 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
         This is the good news –
         the grave is empty;
         Christ is risen.
         Hallelujah!
         This is the good news –
         the light shines in the darkness,
         and the darkness can never put it out.
         Hallelujah!
         This is the good news –
         once we were no people;
         now we are God’s people.
         Hallelujah!
         Christ is our peace,
         the indestructible peace
         we now share with each other.
         Hallelujah!
Prayer
God of life, we praise you for the miracle of Easter.  We pray for great joy for ourselves and for all who worship today to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.  We remember especially those whose lives are filled with pain, loss, or deep sadness.  May they sense how the resurrection is a source of great hope.  God of glory, fill your church with the power that flows from Christ’s resurrection so that, in the midst of the sinful world, it may signal the beginning of a renewed humanity, risen to new life in Christ.  Holy God, creator of all, may the living Lord breathe on us his peace, that our eyes may be opened to recognize him and to follow wherever he leads, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.  Amen.

The First Scripture Reading is from
John 20:19-22 (NIV)

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

The Second Scripture Reading is from
1 Corinthians 15:53-58 (NIV)

53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

  3. Name a time when you witnessed the life of Christ infecting and overcoming sin and death.
  4. Think of one way that you can infect the world with the life of Christ this week.  (Remember, the fruit of Spirit of Jesus is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.)
